Best Time to Visit Disneyland in 2020: High and Low Months
2020 is the year Disneyland builds on the amazing foundation it made with Project Stardust and the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. The internet was shocked (and so were the guests) when virtually nobody showed up following the momentous opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Throughout the year with some predictable spikes throughout 2019 attendance was very light in the Southern California based parks. Now that everything is finally open at Galaxy’s Edge and construction walls are coming down, the door is open for guests to return… and they are. One of the most exciting things for 2020 will be the Phase 1 opening of the Marvel-themed land Avengers Campus. As you plan your next Disney vacation, consider what is the best time to visit Disneyland, 2020.
Disneyland is fun to visit year-round, but some months are more crowded than others.
Why Are You Going?
In order to know when you should go, it’s important to know why you want to go. If you have been anxiously anticipating the new Avengers Campus, then you must wait until Phase 1 opens later in the year. If you are more concerned about catching up on Star Wars, You may be able to get in some time before Spring Break. Of course, one of my favorite times to visit is during the holidays.
Best Months to Visit Disneyland
A couple of things you want to look at when addressing potential crowds is the coming attractions opening dates and when school is in session. The best months to visit Disneyland this year without having to deal with too many crowds are January -February, and April- early May. Spring Break dates are staggered throughout the month of March, so it will be a less desirable time to visit unless of course, you are on Spring Break. Then suddenly, it becomes the best time to visit Disneyland.
Later in the year, October and November make excellent times to visit Disneyland because of the Halloween and Christmas decor that goes up in those months respectively. The two are tied together by Haunted Mansion Holiday which features Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws. Just remember that October can be notoriously hot.
Worst Months to Visit Disneyland
Obviously, things get busier when school lets out. So, starting briefly in March and then from the end of May throughout the summer months, attendance will be higher. Add to that, the new Marvel Land and there may be cause for pause. However, given the Star Wars Land opening last year, and the relative lack of buzz about Avengers Campus, there might not be the explosive turn out one would expect by a major new tentpole attraction. During the holidays, it’s your call whether they are the worst, or the best time to visit Disneyland. The actual week of Thanksgiving and Christmas will be some of the busiest days of the year. It’s kind of like catching an after Christmas sale, but if you visit Disneyland in the first week of January 2021, you can enjoy the decor without the crowds.
The holidays are a fun time time to visit Disneyland, but prepare for the crowds.
Best Time to Experience Avengers Campus
Last month Disney announced that Avengers Campus would open this Summer. There is no official date, so if you really want to be sure to experience this new land, you should plan your visit for August, or even September so that students are back in school and the crowds are hopefully lighter. If you are concerned about attendance spiking and never going down, don’t be. You can expect a fairly crowded summer, but nothing unusual. Either way, if Avengers Campus is not a priority for you, May is the best time to visit Disneyland.
