Admit it - the song is going to be stuck in your head now for the rest of the day! I’ll confess, growing up, I didn’t really play with legos, and LEGOLAND, the theme park, didn’t exist. But my husband has regaled me with stories of his childhood, building and collecting legos. And the love of legos has been passed on to my son. He started off with the duplos, mostly those with Jake and the Neverland Pirates. And his collection has also grown, from Spiderman, to sets from Jurassic World (we are pacing ourselves for the Star Wars sets!). Last year, we attended the Lego KidsFest in Phoenix and I highly encourage others to attend the KidsFest if it arrives at a location near you.
In the meantime, we are extremely excited that a LEGOLAND Discovery Center is opening in Phoenix on April 22nd! It will be located in the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe, which is conveniently located near the freeway. As an added bonus, the Sea Life Aquarium is also located in the mall (more about our experience later as well as my review of KidsFest).
Legoland Discovery Center Phoenix
In anticipation of the Discovery Center’s opening, I thought I’d share our first visit to LEGOLAND, located in Carlsbad, California. My husband and I took our son when he was a a little less than 2 years old and the song isn’t kidding when it says that everything is awesome! It’s perfect for the whole family. My husband and I both had a great time as well, since not only was it our son’s first visit, but it was our first visit to LEGOLAND as well.
There’s something there for everyone, including toddlers - my son was able to go on several of the rides with us and there is a Miniland, displaying not only major cities made out of legos, but also star wars characters made out of legos. It’s pretty amazing to see in person. My son really enjoyed the Duplo Playtown, too.
We had our pictures taken with some of the characters like Wyldstyle and when we first entered the park, my son was handed a minifigure either to trade or keep as a momento of his trip. It definitely made him feel special. And for souvenirs, there was a shop where you could actually make your own lego ornament. I like to collect ornaments from our trips, so this was perfect. And I brought back a few for friends and family.
LEGOLAND also has a really nice water park. Because my son was younger, he was restricted from certain areas, but they had a well planned splash pad for children his age, as well as a pool area.
And did I mention the beach is also nearby?
There’s plenty of things to do in San Diego, and trip to LEGOLAND adds to the experience.
I had a real fun time at LEGOLAND as well. My family stayed at the nearby Hyatt Place which had just been built. We are hoping to go back sometime soon and stay at the LEGOLAND hotel. Apparently the rooms have different themes like Pirate, Knight or an adventurer themed room and the elevator’s have disco lights. Pretty cool all around. We were not able to make use of the waterpark last time so I am looking forward to using it the next time around.
