11 Fun Facts About The War With Grandpa
I love it when I have the opportunity to participate in press interviews for upcoming movies. My family, including my son, saw The War With Grandpa and we couldn’t stop laughing while watching it. I was beyond excited when I received an invitation to participate in virtual interviews with several of the cast members as well as the executive producers. Here are some of the fun facts about The War With Grandpa that I learned as a result of the interviews!
- The movie is based on a popular book written by Robert Kimmel Smith. Tre Peart, who was 8 years old at the time, read it for a class assignment. He loved it so much, that he pitched the idea to his parents, Rosa and Marvin Peart. In the interview, Rosa said she helped prepare Tre pitch the idea to his dad!
- Rosa and Marvin Peart are in the entertainment business (Brookdale Studios and Marro Media Company). They financed and produced the movie along with their son, Tre.
- Marvin Peart said that Tre, who is now a teenager, will become the youngest executive producer according to Guinness Book of World Records. Can you imagine? That is definitely a huge accomplishment.
- The War With Grandpa has an all star cast, including Robert De Niro (who plays Grandpa Ed). The Pearts said that once Robert De Niro signed on for the film, it was easier to get other actors and actresses to commit to the movie.
- Jane Seymour plays Diane, an associate at Fry’s Electronics, who becomes Ed’s friend and potential love interest. Jane was so convincing as an associate in Fry’s Electronics that shoppers didn’t recognize her when she was dressed up in character. In fact, Jane said that real customers kept asking her for help until she was called back to the set!
- There may be a sequel to The War With Grandpa. Marvin Peart said that when he acquired the rights to The War With Grandpa, he also acquired the rights to a prequel and sequel. I really hope so, since my family and I loved the movie so much!
- There’s an epic dodgeball scene in the movie. While stunt doubles were used, Jane jokingly said the scenes where her character falls down are her own moves. In the interview, Cheech (who plays Ed’s friend, Danny) also joked that he was Jane’s stunt double 🙂 Speaking of Cheech….
- Even though Danny has several funny lines thought the movie, Cheech said that he’s actually not a prankster in real life. I never would have guessed it, since he was cracking jokes during the interview 🙂
- In the movie, Ed and his grandson Peter play different pranks on each other. However, Oakes Fegley (who plays Peter) and Laura Marano (who plays Peter’s sister, Mia) both said that there weren’t any pranks going on behind the scenes.
- Speaking of one of the pranks during the movies, you might notice that the movie trailer shows a scene of Robert De Niro’s character waking up……to a snake in his bed! This scene is similar to a famous scene in The Godfather – another movie starring Robert De Niro. Marvin Peart said that it was director Tim Hill’s idea to include this particular scene in the movie.
- In the movie, Peter loves playing video games. During the interview, Rosa Peart said that the video game that Peter is playing in the movie is based on a real video game called Medieval Wars.
