7 Fun Facts About Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe
Before diving into facts about the movie making making process, you can read my movie review here. I’ve always wanted to know more about the movie making process, especially with regard to animated films, so I loved being part of the Q & A with Vincent Martella, Dan Povenmire, and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh. Here are some of the fun facts that I learned about the movie!
The movie took 2 1/2 years to make.
Animated films have always been fascinating to me. Dan said that it’s a lengthy process which involves several artists, writers, editors and musicians. For example, he said that an 11 minute episode of Phineas and Ferb would take 10 months to create! So you can imagine that a full length movie would take even longer. Dan confirmed this when he said that it took 2 1/2 years to make Candace Against the Universe.
Disney contacted them to make the movie.
Dan and Swampy were asked what made them decide to make Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe. Swampy said that he and Dan decided to make the movie when Disney called them and asked them.
Phineas’ head is based on a triangle.
Phineas’ head definitely has a unique shape. Dan was asked where he came up with the inspiration for Phineas’ head. His response? A triangle!
There are several Easter eggs in the movie.
Fans of the series will be very pleased to know that there are several Easter eggs in the film. Dan said that they tried to put in as many as they could as long as it didn’t slow down the movie. For example, there are a couple of references in the movie with regard to vocalists from prior Phineas and Ferb episodes.
One of the songs in the movie was recorded during quarantine.
The movie has a very catchy soundtrack, which is one of the reasons that my family and I enjoyed the movie. Vincent said that the song that is played during the end credits, “We’re Back” was actually filmed during quarantine.
The movie is a starting point for those who not familiar with the series.
While Swampy said that fans of the series will get bonuses while watching the movie, Dan said that he wanted to make sure it was a starting point for a whole new generation of kids who didn’t grow up watching the series. Mission accomplished! My son loved the movie so much that he’s already watched two episodes from the series on Disney Plus.
The movie is meant for the whole family.
Swampy said that Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe is a movie that the whole family can watch together. He tried to create it without alienating younger kids. For example, he explained that they didn’t take out any jokes if they didn’t think kids wouldn’t get it. He explained that kids probably understand more than we give them credit for. Dan also said that kids love jokes about the intricacies of grammar. Ultimately, Vincent said it makes him happy that parents and kids are both excited to see the film.
