The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, will be available to stream on Paramount+ on March 4, 2021. It will also be released by Paramount Home Entertainment for Premium Video-On-Demand on the same day! Is it kid friendly, though? I’m answering that question and more in my spoiler free SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run parents guide. With a PG rating that includes some rude humor and cartoon violence, here’s what parents need to know about The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Parents Guide
The regulars from Bikini Bottom are back. Except in this movie, SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick, set off an adventure to rescue SpongeBob’s pet snail, Gary. That’s because Plankton (ever the villain) gives Gary to King Poseidon in order to collect a reward. Why? Because King Poseidon uses snails as face cream. The horror! Other regulars, like Sandy Cheeks and Squidward, end up helping SpongeBob and Patrick. There are also cameos by actors like Keanu Reeves. Here’s what parents need to know about The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
It’s Rated PG
The movie is rated PG, which means that parental guidance is recommended. It’s mostly rated PG due to some rude humor and cartoon violence. For example, characters say words “knucklehead,” “boob-savant,” and “loser.” Another character, when being stuck with two other characters, says it makes him want to set himself on fire. As for cartoon violence, there are references to executions, there are explosions, and there are scenes involving characters hitting each other. There isn’t any sexual content other than when one of the characters (voiced by Tiffany Haddish) says that another character is hot. The cartoon violence is comical in nature so it’s not overly offensive.
Overall Thoughts
This movie seemed disjointed. There were random scenes, like a scene where SpongeBob and Patrick end up in a ghost town…..with zombies. The scene was just odd. And that seemed to be the overall theme of the movie. With that being said, my son is a huge fan of SpongeBob and enjoyed watching the movie. And he’s the target audience. It just seems like this movie was an introduction for the new series debuting on Paramount+ on March 4th, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, and it didn’t really have any substance to it.
