Jack Sheridan, Melinda Monroe and the rest of the residents of Virgin River are back (again) when Virgin River Season 3 becomes available to stream on Netflix beginning July 9, 2021. A total of 10 episodes, is Virgin River 3 worth watching, though? Keep reading to find out why this series has quickly become the series that I love to hate.
Is Virgin River 3 Worth Watching?
After watching Virgin River 2 last year, I was on the fence as to whether or not I was going to watch Season 3. You can read all about it here, but needless to say, I decided to give it another try. Is Virgin River 3 worth watching? I suppose it was at least somewhat better than the second season. But, as a viewer, there are several things that frustrate me about this series. First, even though new characters are introduced in the third season, there’s no resolution to the existing storylines. For example, Hope (played by Annette O’Toole) has been a main character from the beginning. However, her character rarely even makes an appearance in season 3. Then there’s the situation with Jack (played by Martin Henderson), Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), and Charmaine (played by Lauren Hammersley). I think Charmaine should win the Guinness world record for longest pregnancy in history. That’s because her pregnancy has lasted THREE SEASONS. And last but not least, Preacher (played by Colin Lawrence) deserves more of a storyline. The series does a great disservice to his character’s storyline by treating him and Paige (played by Lexa Doigas) as a side note.
Like Season 2, Season 3 ends on a cliffhanger and given the subject matter of that cliffhanger (no spoilers), I think I’m finally over the series. At least for another year 😉
What is Virgin River 3 Rated?
The series is rated TV-14 mostly due to language, violence, and sexual content. I only noticed three curse words throughout season 3, including “he*l and “da*n.” As for violence, there are references to a hurricane, Jack being shot in Season 2, a fire, and there is also a death.
Similar to the first two seasons, there are also sensitive topics in Season 3 such as pregnancy loss. This is something you’ll want to know in advance if you’ve experienced pregnancy loss.
There is also sexual content. Several of the characters engage in sex; however, it is not necessarily graphic (unlike Bridgerton). There isn’t explicit nudity in Virgin River 3, it’s mostly implied. The series is based on a romance novel, though, so no surprise there.
Do You Need to Watch Virgin Season 2 Before Watching Virgin River 3?
No. I didn’t enjoy Virgin River 2. The storylines are very similar to a soap opera and not much gets resolved from Season 2. Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger but that cliffhanger is totally glossed over in the third season. Many of the scenes end rather abruptly without any type of smooth transitions. And as a viewer, this can be disappointing, especially since I think the cast does a great job with their performances given the material. I think it might be time to find another guilty pleasure. Of course, I said that last time, and look what happened 🙂

In Virgin River season three, we’ve got even more drama in store for our beloved characters. Highlights include, a funeral, a fire, a divorce, a hurricane and a new romance, in a twist-packed season that’ll keep fans on the edge of their seats.

You are so much more “tuned in” than I am: I haven’t even heard of this show. Sounds like I can continue to skip it. 😉
