Are you looking for family friendly, lighthearted entertainment in Tucson? If so, you don’t want to miss the Gaslight Theatre’s latest show, Robin Hood. My family and I were hosted by The Gaslight Theatre in exchange for a review of Robin Hood, but as always, all opinions are my own. My family loved it so much, that it quickly became our favorite show that we’ve seen at The Gaslight Theatre. Here’s what you need to know about the Gaslight Theatre’s spoof of Robin Hood!
GASLIGHT THEATRE’S ROBIN HOOD
I’ve always loved the story of Robin Hood. Prince of Thieves (starring Kevin Costner) remains one of my favorite adaptions and Men In Tights (directed by Mel Brooks) still makes me laugh every time I see it. Needless to say, I was intrigued when I saw that my favorite local music theater, the Gaslight Theatre, was going to bring its own spin to the story of Robin Hood.
Loyal fans of the story of Robin Hood will not be disappointed. Robin battles the Sheriff of Nottingham and Guy of Gisbourne with his fellow merry men, Will Scarlet and Little John. Can Robin out smart the bad guys and save the people of England? Will he win the heart of the fair Maid Marian? Will he scale the castle wall or use the stairs? The Gaslight production of Robin Hood answers all these hard hitting questions.
I was worried prior to the show that a lot of the jokes and plot would go over my 10 year old son’s head because he’s not familiar with the story of Robin Hood. However, in classic Gaslight Theatre fashion, the plot and the gags were easy to follow and the laughs just kept coming. From the physical comedy to the play on words, to the props and set pieces, I could tell that the Gaslight pulled out all the stops to make this, in my opinion, one of their best shows yet.
What makes it even better is they followed the main show with the Beatles Olio, playing some of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. I loved the outfits and you could tell the audience really enjoyed it as I heard many of them singing along with the performers.
I’m glad I got to go with my family and would recommend you do so as well.
