Updated March 24, 2023.
Are you looking for a kid friendly ballpark? If so, Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks (D-backs) should be on your list. My husband and I both love baseball but attending professional baseball games can be expensive. From the tickets themselves, to parking, to food, it can add up and discourage families from spending an afternoon at the ballpark. However, Chase Field is an extremely kid friendly ballpark, making it very affordable for families to attend games.
While I enjoy visiting different ballparks across the U.S., my favorite team will always be the D-backs. I lived in Phoenix several years ago, and I loved attending games in person. Once I moved back to Tucson, I still made it a point to travel up to Phoenix for games. However, I took a hiatus after I gave birth to my son, with the exception of spring training games. My husband and I were lucky if our son could sit for an entire movie, let alone 9 innings of a baseball game. And because I wasn’t a parent during my previous visits to Chase Field, I had no idea that Chase Field is such a kid friendly ballpark. However, it turns out that it’s extremely kid friendly – for the reasons mentioned below!
Reasons Why Chase Field is a Kid Friendly Ballpark
- The Kids Club
- Free Sunday Tickets for Kids
- The Sandlot
- Kid Friendly Ballpark Food Options
- Kids Club Digital Badges
1. The Kids Club
One of the reasons Chase Field is a kid friendly ballpark is because the D-backs have a Kids Club for children that are ages 15 years old and younger. Membership is free and includes several perks. Essentially, kids can earn prizes for every game they attend, like a Puzzle Cube or Color Changing Tumbler. To find out more about the Arizona Diamondbacks Kids Club and how kids can become members, click here.*
*You can visit the Chase Field Kids Club Headquarters near Section 329 or near Section 106 to redeem the prizes.
2. Free Sunday Tickets for Kids
Kids Club members can now receive one free ticket for Sunday home games. All those in favor, raise a foam hand! The tickets can be redeemed the Thursday before the Sunday home game. Click here to redeem the tickets. Keep in mind that your Kids Club account must also be created at least one week before the Sunday game that you want to attend. Sometimes, I’ll also receive emails notifying me that kids tickets are free for weekend home games, not just Sundays. This isn’t always guaranteed, so your best bet is to make sure your child is registered to the kids club so that you’ll receive emails.
Also new this year, for 2023 – Kids Club Members can also receive access to free tickets for select Monday through Thursday games. To find out more info, you’ll want to read the Kids Club Newsletter.
3. The Sandlot
The Sandlot is located on the Upper Concourse, near left field, and is a child’s dream playground! The Sandlot overlooks the baseball field so parents can still watch the game while their children play. And I especially like that the Sandlot is divided into three separate play areas, depending on age. For example, there’s an area solely for toddlers, a play area with two clubhouses, and four slides for kids who are 48 inches tall and shorter and children ages 3 years old and older. And for the older kids – there’s another area with batting cages.
4. Kid Friendly Ballpark Food Options
As I mentioned above, ballpark food can be very expensive. However, the food at Chase Field is extremely affordable for families – there are value items for $2.99, like hot dogs and popcorn. To find value items, you’ll want to look for the logo around the ballpark. However, they can also be located at select Doubleheaders stands. During my family’s recent visit, we were able to mobile order our value items through Express Pickup in the MLB Ballpark App. Once our food was prepared, we received notification that the food was ready for pick up. Which is extremely convenient when you are with younger kids.
There are also other options available for those who want to indulge 🙂 While the churro is pricey, it’s very good!
Families can also bring their own food and drinks as long as it’s on the permitted list. To see the full list of permitted and prohibited items, click here.
5. Kids Club Digital Badges
Special badges can be earned throughout the season. The badges will appear on the Kids Club Digital Card. To find out more info, click here. Also new in 2023, kids can obtain physical buttons at select games to display on their Kids Club lanyard.
We are very lucky in Arizona to have a kid friendly ballpark. And even though it’s hot outside, Chase Field has a retractable roof that closes to keep the heat out. So it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon escaping the heat. I want my son to enjoy baseball as much as my husband and I do. And attending ballgames at Chase Field makes it more enjoyable for us as a family.

A play area? that’s just brilliant. WOW! I wish all stadiums had something like that.

We took our sons to their first MLB game at Chase Field about a month ago. Sadly, the Sandlot was too busy for them to play at all during the game: we waited in line for over 20 minutes without moving more than a spot or two. I learned later that the trick is to get there before the game.
My sons were also creeped out by the mascots. HA! They did enjoy the food, though. 🙂

Hi. My name is Chris. I’m from Vermont, visiting Sedona, and going to a d backs game game tonight with my 8 year old nephew ( first pro game ever for him) your info was extremely helpful, because I was worried about how to keep him entertained for a full 9. What we can bring for food and drink was helpful as well. I’ll be going for the Mets as a family curse has left me an Indians fan, and I can’t wait to watch Lindor play ss for the Mets, but good luck d backs, go baseball, and thanks
