Are you looking for ways to experience a movie night at home? If so, then you’ll want to consider singing along to Disney’s The Little Mermaid! Join Ariel and her ocean friends under the sea and sing along to favorite songs like “Part of This World” when Disney’s The Little Mermaid arrives on Digital on February 12, 2019 and 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray™ on February 26, 2019 as part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection. As part of a sponsored partnership with Walt Disney Studios, I’m sharing information about its bonus features as well as ways that you can experience your own movie night at home!
Movie Night Ideas: Disney’s The Little Mermaid Sing-along
Can you believe it? Disney’s The Little Mermaid was originally released 30 years ago in 1989. I can still remember seeing it in a movie theater for the first time. I’m likely to sing along whenever I hear music from the soundtrack, like “Part of Your World” and “Under the Sea,” and I was even excited when Disneyland introduced a ride for all ages, including toddlers, in honor of The Little Mermaid.
You can also imagine how excited I was when I found out that the Anniversary Edition of Disney’s The Little Mermaid includes several bonus features, including a sing-along mode! As a result, it’s a great movie to watch as part of a movie night at home with family and friends. Plus, it’s the seventh title to join the Walt Disney Signature Collection, which includes other Disney classics like “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” I’ve listed below all the bonus features in the Anniversary Edition – and as you can see, there’s a lot of them!
ALL NEW BONUS FEATURES:
- Sing-Along Mode – Sing Along to the movie in this sing-along version of the film.
- Alan Menken & the Leading Ladies Song – From the voice of a mermaid to the tunes of a muse, the music of Alan Menken has scored the soundtrack for some of Disney’s most iconic leading ladies. Join Alan, Jodi Benson (Ariel), Paige O’Hara (Belle), Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas Singing Voice), Lillias White (Calliope) and Donna Murphy (Mother Gothel) as we celebrate the music of their films in honor of the one that started it all…”The Little Mermaid.” In this discussion, the ladies will share their memories of musically creating their characters with Alan, discuss what it means to be part of the Disney Princess/leading lady legacy and create new memories as they sing with Alan around a baby grand piano.
- “What I Want From You…Is Your VOICE” – Enter the recording studio and get an inside look at the cast of “The Little Mermaid” in their original recording sessions.
- Stories From Walt’s Office – Gadgets & Gizmos – Like Ariel, Walt Disney was a collector of many different things from miniatures to early mechanical characters that inspired the invention of audio-animatronics. We take a look at some of the collections that Walt kept in his office in the third episode of this series.

Family Movie Night at Home
The folks at Walt Disney Studios sent me several items to plan my my own movie night at home and I’m sharing my experience with you in hopes that it will inspire you to plan your own movie night at home! My idea of a relaxing night at home involves a great movie, a blanket, a pillow, and snacks, so this was perfect for me and my family.
First, you’ll want to pick a day to experience your movie night at home. We usually celebrate our family movie night at home on Friday nights because it’s a great way to unwind.
Second, you’ll want to pick a movie that everyone will want to see. Because I have a 6 year old son, it’s very important to me that my family watches a movie that’s appropriate for children. My son is well familiar with The Little Mermaid so he was excited when I suggested we watch the Anniversary Edition of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Like me, he also loves music, so the sing-along mode is a great option to celebrate a family movie night at home.
Third, you’ll want to get comfortable with blankets, pillows, and sleeping bags! I love blankets especially, so I loved the mermaid tail/blanket that Walt Disney Studios sent me! I also loved the pillow they sent me – it plays music from The Little Mermaid 🙂 You can put your own spin on it for your own movie night, though. There are several ways to get creative with a Little Mermaid – or ocean – theme.
And last but not least, you’ll want to have plenty of snacks and drinks for a movie night at home, as well as paper plates napkins for the snacks and glasses for the drinks! Try to theme your snacks and drinks around the movie you are watching. For example, we snacked on bark inspired by The Little Mermaid while watching the sing-along and it’s a unique way to experience a movie night at home. The possibilities are endless with The Little Mermaid theme, which is one of the reasons why it’s a great option for experiencing a movie night at home.
