Family Movie Night: 25th Anniversary of The Swan Princess
I love the Ballet so I was excited to read that The Swan Princess is based on the Swan Lake ballet. It’s a musical and animated film that was originally released in 1994, but the newly remastered 25th anniversary edition is now available in stores and on Amazon (affiliate link). It’s about Odette, a princess who turns into a swan during the day, due to an evil sorcerer’s spell. She’s joined by Jean-Bob (a frog), Speed (a Turtle), Puffin (a bird), and a prince named Derek.
This was not only my son’s first time watching the film, but mine as well. I initially thought the movie might be geared more towards girls, but I was wrong! So if you have boys, don’t let that deter you from watching the movie. My son was laughing throughout the movie – he especially liked Jean-Bob, Speed and Puffin. The songs are also very catchy, so I was also happy to see that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment sent us the soundtrack. Not only can we listen to it at home, but we can also listen to it when we travel!
Besides the soundtrack, we also received several other items to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Swan Princess, like a blanket, a coloring book, a game, backpack and plush animals, all based on The Swan Princess.
My son loves sitting on the floor while watching movies, so we placed the blanket on the floor so he could enjoy watching the movie while munching on popcorn, surrounded by his new plush animals 🙂
I’m glad that we have a new movie to add to our family movie night collection. Not only is The Swan Princess enjoyable for children, but it’s also enjoyable for parents as well.
