Gift Ideas for Movie Lovers: Downton Abbey Movie
In the movie, the Crawleys and their staff are back, except this time, they are getting ready for royalty to visit. Who else gets chills as soon as they hear the Downton Abbey theme song?? While it’s been around 4 years since the TV series ended, the movie takes place approximately 18 months after the events in the series finale. Most of the regular characters are back, including the Dowager Countess of Grantham (played by Maggie Smith). I don’t want to spoil the Downton Abbey Movie for those who haven’t seen it yet, but the writing and acting is phenomenal. It is very much a love letter to the fans of the series and I was literally in tears as the credits rolled. Which begs the question……
Do You Need to See the Downton Abbey TV Series in Order to Understand the Movie?
For those of you who never watched the TV series, don’t let that stop you from watching the movie or giving the movie as a gift to someone who hasn’t seen the series. I saw the movie with my mom who has never watched the series and she loved it as well. While I do think those who have watched the series will understand the history behind the characters, the plot is easy to follow.

I wish I could get my husband to watch this show. I’ve only seen a single episode, and I don’t want to see the movie until I’ve watched the series. So many of my friends love both.
