With a new year, comes a new season of entertaining shows at the Gaslight Theatre! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love The Gaslight Theatre. If you’re new to my blog, you can read more about The Gaslight Theatre here. I was excited when my family and I were recently invited to see the latest performance, The Two Amigos. So here it goes – a review of The Gaslight Theatre Presents The Two Amigos!
A Review of The Gaslight Theatre Presents The Two Amigos!
Who has seen the movie The Three Amigos with Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short? I’m not embarrassed to admit that it’s one of my favorites. I can remember seeing it in the movie theater when it was first released. I expected the same slapstick comedy from the film to translate to the stage performance of the Two Amigos. And I wasn’t disappointed one bit. Essentially, The Two Amigos is a spoof of The Three Amigos.
First, the performers. All of them (and I do mean all of them) are amazing, with their singing, one liners, and facial expressions. You know you’re a true fan of the Gaslight when you know all the performers by their real name even though you’ve never met them personally. And speaking of the one liners, they are fast and furious. At one point, one of the characters told David Orley’s character, Lt. Gonzales, that he should be on Broadway. Lt. Gonzales’ retort? “I am on Broadway…….Broadway & Kolb.” It’s those zingers that really make me love the Gaslight Theatre. And it’s a great nod for those of us who have been longtime fans – since we know that the Gaslight Theatre is located on a street called Broadway 🙂
And for those of you haven’t seen a performance at the The Gaslight Theatre, now is a great time to give it a try, especially to see the Two Amigos. It’s funny, it’s witty, and the songs are well done. The audience couldn’t stop laughing, including my 4 year old son. He’s at an age where he loves cowboys, and he loves slapstick comedy. You’ll find yourself rooting for the good guys and booing the bad guys.
A little more about the storyline below……..
“Reynaldo and Paco, circus performers who bill themselves as “The Two Amigos”, have agreed to appear at a fiesta in the sleepy village of Santa Feliz. While performing their routines, they accidentally become involved in the affairs of the townspeople. The helpless citizens of Santa Feliz are at the mercy of the evil Commandant Maximo and there is no one who can thwart his plans to secure his grip on the local government! Or is there? Join the escapades of the bumbling Two Amigos as they laugh, love and fight their way into the hearts of the people of Santa Feliz!”
