Move over, James Bond. There’s a new spy in town and he has a license to thrill the audience at the Gaslight Theatre. My family and I were hosted by The Gaslight Theatre in exchange for a review of its latest melodrama, 009 Licence to Thrill, but as always, all opinions are my own. If you’re looking for a highly entertaining performance, complete with slapstick comedy, action sequences, and catchy songs, then this is one show that you won’t want to miss! Keep reading for a review as well the chance to win tickets to see a performance!
A REVIEW OF THE GASLIGHT THEATRE’S 009 LICENCE TO THRILL
009 Licence to Thrill is basically is a spoof of the James Bond series, and it’s the Gaslight Theatre’s latest melodrama for the fall season. My family and I had the opportunity to see one of the first performances, and we all loved it! Former Gaslight regular David Fanning is back, this time as Secret Agent Jake Strong and he does a great job as 009. The rest of the cast members are equally great, like Heather Stricker, Janee Page, Todd Thompson, Erin Thompson, Mike Yarema, Joe Cooper, Jake Chapman, and David Orley. I’m constantly amazed by the evolution of the Gaslight Theatre’s productions, from the choreography, the off-the-cuff one liners, the band, the sets, to the performers themselves. My family and I especially enjoy seeing the props come alive on stage, like a giant snowball. Fighting crime has never been so fun! Whether you love spy, superhero, westerns, or science fiction movies, you’ll no doubt be entertained at the Gaslight.
Here’s a little more about The Gaslight Theatre presents 009 Licence to Thrill:
“Secret Agent, Jake Strong, travels the globe fighting evil, meeting beautiful women, and singing songs. After infiltrating the gang of criminal mastermind, Victor Vector, and his sinister henchwoman, Venus, Strong must thwart their evil plans for world domination. Will this “Secret Agent Man” find Vector’s top secret laboratory in time? Will he save the world from nefarious schemes? Will he still have time for a cocktail?!”
THE SINGING AND DANCING WITH THE STARS OLIO
This was by far one of my favorite olios. If you have ever wondered how Ricky Schroeder would ever do on Dancing With the Stars, then you’ll get a kick out of Gaslight performer Jake Chapman’s impersonation of Ricky Schroder from Silver Spoons fame. If you’ve never heard of Ricky Schroeder or Silver Spoons, then I’m clearly showing my age, lol. Ricky and his dance partner (Janee Page) perform songs from the movie Grease like “Sandy” and “You’re the One That I Want.” And if that doesn’t want to make you get up a dance, songs like “You Should Be Dancing,” “Night Fever,” and “Saturday Night Live” will make you want to put on bell bottoms and channel your inner John Travolta and Bee Gees. And that doesn’t even include Heather Stricker’s impersonation of Cher and Joe Cooper and David Fanning’s impersonations of Willy Nelson and Julio Iglesias.
IS 009 LICENCE TO THRILL KID FRIENDLY?
Yes! My son looks forward to the shows at the Gaslight Theater, and he really enjoyed Licence to Thrill. He especially laughed at the corny jokes and the pretend fight sequences. The food is an added bonus. I asked son what he likes about the Gaslight Theatre and here’s what he has to say “I like the songs and I love the popcorn. I love that they give people ice cream for their birthdays and anniversaries.” So there you go. Popcorn and ice cream. What more could a kid ask for? 🙂
