Blue Man Group Orlando: Unique Family Fun!

Three words.  Blue Man Group.  Chances are, you’ve heard of this performing trio in various cities.  Some of you may have seen their performances.  But what about for those of us who haven’t seen it before, and don’t know what to expect?  My family and I had the opportunity to see Blue Man Group Orlando perform live, and we find it to be a highly unique family fun experience!

I’ve previously written about our experience at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.  We had a great time, including my preschool aged son.  Our discounted vacation package, however, also included tickets to see a performance by Blue Man Group Orlando.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  Would my son be fidgety?  Would he want to leave the performance early?  Would our family night out turn out to be a disaster?

The answer to all those questions turned out to be “No.”  He had a wonderful time, and even ended up trying to dance along with the music.  Listed below are reasons we find it to be a unique family fun experience.

Location and Convenience

The theater is conveniently located in Universal CityWalk, right next to Universal Studios Florida.

In fact, we were able to make a quick beeline to the theater from the park itself.  We also had our stroller, and we were able to take the stroller inside the theater with us.  To add to the convenience, there was a special area where we could park our stroller, without having to fold it up.

Food Options

The theater has a snack bar, which can be a lifesaver, especially for families with young children.  I can’t count all the times I’ve relied on gummy snacks to keep the peace.  At the end of the day, we were ready to sit down in the theater, relax, and enjoy the performance, while eating snacks like popcorn and pretzels.

Casual Atmosphere

I don’t like dressing up while I’m on vacation.  I live in a city which is a pretty laid back.  The last thing my family wants to do after spending a day at the theme park is dress up for an event.  This is one of the reasons why I enjoyed Blue Man Group – we were still able to have a great time as a family outside of the theme park and experience something different, but we didn’t have to dress up for the occasion.

Audience Participation

Here’s where I think the performers really excel, and where the uniqueness of the performance really comes into play.  Performers catch certain items in their mouths, shown in the picture below. Additionally, participants are chosen from the audience and are able to interact with the performers on stage.

And then there are the giant balloons that float throughout the theater!  My whole family LOVED it, especially my son.

Last but not least, everyone can take pictures with the performers afterward.  My son didn’t quite know what to make out of the guy painted in blue, but he at least allowed us to take a photo with one of the performers!

Please note that the performance is loud, so if your child is sensitive to loud noises, you will want to take this into consideration.

With that being said, our family loved it and we would definitely see another Blue Man Group performance.
