Have you seen Disney’s Christopher Robin yet? If not, you should definitely put it on your list of movies to see! It’s not only heartwarming, but it’s one that all ages will enjoy. The movie will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on November 6, 2018 and I was provided with a copy of the movie in exchange for a review. However, all opinions are my own. My family and I purchased our tickets to see Disney’s Christopher Robin when it was initially released at the movie theater and we all loved it, including my son who was 5 years old at the time. Keep reading for a review as well as ideas as to how you can host your own Friendsgiving!
Disney’s Christopher Robin Review
The movie begins with a young Christopher Robin getting ready to leave for boarding school. His friends at The Hundred Acre Wood (Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Owl, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo) are hosting a party for him. They are sad to see him leave, but are hopeful that they will see him again. Fast forward several years, and Christopher Robin is now an adult with a family of his own. However, like many adults, he’s struggling with balancing his work and family life. Christopher Robin is so focused on his work, that he rarely spends time with his wife and daughter. One thing is clear – Christopher Robin is a bore and his days of imagination are long gone.
It’s when his family is in crisis after he chooses work over them that Winnie the Pooh makes an appearance at Christopher Robin’s home in London. Christopher Robin is shocked to see Pooh, while Pooh is incredibly excited to see his long lost friend. He tries to get Pooh back to The Hundred Acre Wood, only when they arrive there, Pooh can’t find his friends. Christopher Robin sets out to help him, and in the process, realizes what is truly important in life: family and friends. He also rediscovers his imagination along the way.
I have to admit, I found myself crying during some of the scenes in the movie. Because we could all learn from Winnie the Pooh. Two of my favorite quotes during the movie come from Pooh: “”Doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something” and “I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I’ve been.” It’s nice to just step back and enjoy the simple things in life, just like Winnie the Pooh.
It can be difficult transforming a beloved series adapted for animation into a live action film. However, Disney’s Christopher Robin really did a great job of bringing favorite characters to life. For example, Pooh seemed very much life-like, while maintaining his original “stuffed with fluff” appearance 🙂
I have long been a fan of Winnie the Pooh and his friends at The Hundred Acre Wood. I grew up following their adventures, and now my son is doing the same. Not to mention, one of his favorite rides at Disneyland is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
A Friendsgiving Celebration
At its core, Disney’s Christopher Robin is all about friendships. As a result, you can imagine my excitement when the folks at Walt Disney Studios sent me items like a hunny pot jar, serving tray/ cutting board, name tag holders, name cards, placemats, honey, a cookbook, and a basket so that I could host my own Friendsgiving celebration and share my experience! I love party planning, especially when it involves a theme that is near and dear to my heart, like Disney’s Christopher Robin. While The Hundred Acre Wood is known as the place where Pooh and all his friends live and hang out, it represents so much more than that.
Friendsgiving is what you make of it. It can occur at home, or even somewhere like the park. It can be a grand feast, or something as simple as cheese and bread. And honey. Lots of honey. Because if there’s one thing that Pooh loves as much as his friends, it’s honey!
I’m a fan of keeping things simple, and put great use to the items I received. Because of the woodsy theme of the movie, I decided to stay true to that. I made honey bread which would make Pooh proud! Between that, cheese, and salad, it ended up being a simple, yet delicious, meal for a Friendsgiving. And it’s something that can be easily recreated for your own Friendsgiving 🙂
