Disney Wreath Ideas: How to Make a Mickey Mouse Wreath
My friend loves Disney as much as a I do and when she showed me a picture of a Mickey Mouse wreath she previously made, I knew I wanted to make one of my very own. So with her help, I set out to make a Disney inspired wreath. Get ready to get your craft on – here’s how to make your own Mickey Mouse wreath!
Materials Needed
- 1 Large Wreath
- 2 Small Wreaths (I chose to get 2 of these instead)
- Glue Gun
- Paintbrush
- Orange Acrylic Paint
- Twine
- Scissors
- Wood Circles in different sizes
- Maple Leaf Bush
- Oak Leaf Bush
- Sunflower Bush
- Mini Pumpkins
- Florist Wire
Preparation
Before you start crafting, you’ll want to make sure that you use a table covering that you don’t mind getting dirty or messy. I used an old plastic tablecloth. You’ll also want to use scissors to cut the various fall leaves, sunflowers, and mini pumpkins from the artificial branches so you can later add them separately to the wreath.
Directions
There are several steps involved in making the Mickey wreath. Below, I’m listing all of the steps I used, but what I like is that anyone can decorate it they way they want with their favorite fall colors and leaves. So you can definitely substitute the flowers and leaves with those of your own choosing.
Making Hidden Mickeys with the Mini Pumpkins
If you decide you want to turn mini pumpkins into hidden mickeys, you’ll need to paint both sides of the wooden circles (listed above) orange so that they have time to dry. These will be the ears for the pumpkins. As the wooden circles are drying, cut slots on both sides of the mini pumpkins so that you can place the circles into each slot once they are dry. You’ll also want to use your glue gun to put glue on the side of the wooden circles that you are going to use. That way, it’ll be more secure once you place them in the pumpkin. Once you are done with that, you can place the mini pumpkins with ears to the side until you later glue them on the wreath. But more about that below 🙂
Securing the Wreath
Next, it’s time to secure the three wreaths together with twine; the large wreath for the head and the two smaller wreaths for the ears. For the ears, secure the smaller wreaths one at a time, to the main wreath, with twine. You’ll want to wrap the twine a few times to connect the two wreaths together, then pull it tightly and tie it up in a knot, using the scissors to cut the loose ends of the twine. After that, you’ll want to use the florist wire to also secure the smaller wreaths to the larger wreath. And voila. You now have a Mickey wreath.
Decorating the Wreath
Finally, the best part – decorating the wreath. I used all the leaves to layer the wreath. You can choose to decorate just a portion of the wreath, or the entire wreath. I chose to just decorate one side of the wreath with the leaves and sunflowers because I like that it’s more rustic looking. But, if you really want to spruce it up, you an also add a cute plaid bow, to make it more like Minnie. When placing the leaves on the wreath, you’ll want to use the glue gun and put glue on the back of each leaf so that it will stick to the wreath. Be sure to layer the leaves so that they pop out. Once you’ve layered it the way you want, you can then add the mini pumpkins with the glue gun.
