Are you looking for a feel-good, family friendly movie to watch this holiday season? If so, you’ll want to put Godmothered on your “Nice” list 🙂 That’s because fairytales get a modern twist when Godmothered becomes available to stream on Disney Plus on December 4, 2020. However, is it a movie that the younger kids will enjoy? I’m answering this question in my spoiler free parent movie review. With a PG rating that includes mild moments of peril, here’s what parents need to know about Godmothered on Disney Plus.
Godmothered on Disney Plus: A Parent Movie Review
In the movie, Eleanor (played by Jillian Bell) is a Fairy Godmother-In-Training who finds out that the Godmother Program is about to become defunct. As a result, Eleanor sets out on an assignment to help a ten year old girl named Mackenzie find her true love and happily ever after. Except that when Eleanor meets Mackenzie (played by Isla Fisher), Mackenzie is now an adult and a widowed mother of two girls. Will younger kids enjoy the movie? Here’s what parents need to know.
It’s Rated PG
The movie is rated PG so parental guidance is suggested. None of the characters use profanity or sexual innuendoes. Instead, phrases like “son of a butterscotch” and “Oh My Godmothers” are used. There also isn’t any violence with the exception of pumpkins that explode and a sledding incident gone wrong. However, these scenes are more comedic that anything else.
Mature Content
There is mature content as it relates to coping with the loss of a loved one. It’s something you’ll want to keep in mind if you and your family have recently experienced a loss of a loved one. However, the movie handles it in a sensitive way. Plus, the message of the movie is very relatable; that is, fairytales and happily-ever-afters can have a different meaning to everyone.
Overall Thoughts
I enjoyed watching this movie a lot! It’s very family friendly, especially since there isn’t any profanity, any violence, or sexual scenes/innuendos. However, the movie is almost 2 hours long which could be too long to keep younger kids’ attention spans. Nevertheless, the movie will capture their – and your – imagination with the special effects as Eleanor uses her wand to cast magical spells such as transforming food into a carriage 🙂

About Godmothered on Disney Plus
Set at Christmas time, “Godmothered” is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell), who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers. Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “happily ever after,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
