Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples – kids love it, too! For school-aged children, this romantic holiday involves candy, exchanging Valentines with classmates, and fun activities. Go to the Movies

February 14^th tends to be a big day for movie premieres. Schedule a trip to the movie theater to see a new release, like Sonic the Hedgehog. Since the theater will likely be packed that night, bring your kids to see it over Valentine’s Day weekend. Go Ice Skating, Roller Skating, or Bowling

Other things to do with kids for Valentine’s Day?  Take them to the local skating rink for some family-friendly fun. If your kids are new to ice skating, call your local rink to see when they’re less likely to be crowded.  Alternatively, head to a roller-skating rink or the bowling alley.  Roller skates can be easier for kids to use than ice skates and most towns have bowling alleys.

Go to an Arcade

Arcades are fun for the whole family!  Engage in some friendly competition with your significant other and kids – who can win the most prize tickets?  My husband and I took our son and our niece and nephew to our local Dave & Buster’s over the summer and they had a blast.

Visit Relatives

Celebrate your love for your family by seeing them over the weekend. Have your kids make Valentine’s Day cards, drawings, or other crafts to give to their relatives during your visit.  As a family, you can also play charades like Kids on Stage (affiliate link).  We played Kids On Stage on New Year’s Day and we had so much fun!

Take a Class at Michael’s

The MAKE Break craft series at Michael’s focuses on giving families a break from their busy weekday responsibilities, and the classes are often free. You can call your local store to see if other classes are family-friendly, too (some are geared towards kids only). MAKE Break projects are sometimes inspired by the seasons, so you may even get to do a Valentine’s Day-themed project!

Go to Build-A-Bear Workshop

Build-a-Bear Workshop lets your children stuff, dress, and make a birth certificate for their own stuffed animal. There are dozens of characters to choose from, and they can even stick a scent or sound into their plushie.

Visit the Local Zoo

Another thing to do with kids for Valentine’s Day?  Visit your local zoo!  My son loves visiting our local zoo in Tucson as well as the nearby zoo in Phoenix.  There might even be a special event at the zoo for Valentine’s Day weekend.  If not, though, kids will enjoy seeing all the animals.
