PAW Patrol: The Movie will be released in theaters on August 20, 2021. It will also be available to stream on Paramount+ for subscribers that same day. Like the television series, is it still appropriate for younger kids, like toddlers and preschoolers? I’m answering that question and more in my spoiler free PAW Patrol: The Movie parents guide. With a G rating that includes several action sequences, here’s what parents need to know about PAW Patrol: The Movie. And as an added bonus, I’m sharing mini fun facts that I learned during a recent interview with Marsai Martin (who voices new character Liberty) and Iain Armitage (who voices fan favorite Chase).
PAW Patrol The Movie: A Parents Guide and Mini Fun Facts
The pups from PAW Patrol are back, this time in their own feature film! In the movie, 10 year old Ryder (Will Brisbane) and his team of pups Chase (Iain Armitage), Marshall (Kingsley Marshall), Rubble (Keegan Hedley), Rocky (Callum Shoniker), Zuma (Shayle Simons), and Skye (Lilly Bartlam) set off on a new adventure to Adventure City. That’s because they must rescue the residents of Adventure City from their enemy, Mayor Humdinger (Ron Pardo).
The movie also introduces PAW Patrol fans to a new character, a Dachshund named Liberty (Marsai Martin), who helps the pups battle Mayor Humdinger. Added to the mix? Characters voiced by Kim Kardashian, Tyler Perry, Jimmy Kimmel, and Dax Shepard. Here’s what parents need to know about Paw Patrol: The Movie.
It’s Rated G
The movie is rated G, which means that it’s intended for all ages, including toddlers and preschoolers. The movie itself is computer-animated and there are several action sequences involving fire and explosions, car chases, long distance jumps, and other perilous moments. However, those scenes are not graphic and not particularly scary for younger viewers. There are also scenes that depict a character overcoming his fear of abandonment and letting down his friends. But, this leads to one of the important messages of the movie – overcoming ones fears with the help of friends.
Overall Thoughts
With great animation and a lot of heart, PAW Patrol: The Movie is a must see movie for families with young children. My son has grown up watching PAW Patrol and while he’s no longer preschool aged, even he loved watching the movie. And as a parent, there have been several movies that I’ve sat through that I didn’t necessarily enjoy. But PAW Patrol isn’t one of those movies. My husband and I were especially impressed with the action sequences, the humorous moments, and the overall message of the movie (more about that below).
Mini Fun Facts About PAW Patrol: The Movie
Now on to some fun facts about the movie! I was thrilled when I was recently invited to participate in an interview with Marsai Martin (who voices Liberty) and Iain Armitage (who voices Chase). Here are some fun facts that I was able to learn as a result of the interview.
- Marsai Martin and Iain Armitage are similar to the characters they voice. For example, Marsai said that she and Liberty are both confident and they both follow their dreams. Iain said that similar to Chase, he is loyal, a team player and likes to help others in need.
- Speaking of being a team player, Iain said that there are lessons that children can learn from the movie, such as the importance of teamwork and sticking up for friends.
- Even though Iain is the voice of Chase, some of his other favorite characters are Zuma, Rocky, and Liberty. Marsai said some of her other favorite PAW Patrol characters are Skye and Marshall.
- Marsai and Iain both said that voicing characters for animated characters can be tricky. Marsai’s character, Liberty, has a high pitched voice, so Marsai worked on her voice to make sure that she could achieve that high pitched sound. Iain said that Chase’s voice has a high energy vibe to it, so he had to work on the rhythm of Chase’s voice, like when his character says “Chase is on the case!”
PAW Patrol: The Movie is a fun movie for the whole family! It’s rare these days to see a movie that doesn’t contain any curse words, crude language, or graphic violence. So when a movie is released that is entertaining for all ages, I’m here for it !

Very cool! My sons were HUGE Paw Patrol fans for the first couple of years the show was out, before they became (in their view) “too old” for the show.
