Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs Movie Review (Giveaway)
Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs is a reimagining Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This particular adaptation, however, focuses on positive body image. Snow White (voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz), an overweight princess, turns into a thin version of herself when she puts on a pair of red shoes. In the meantime, seven princes (including Merlin, voiced by Sam Claflin) are turned into dwarfs by a fairy princess after they mistake her for a witch. The spell can only be broken when they are kissed by a beautiful woman. And to further complicate things, Snow White’s wicked stepmother (voiced by Gina Gershon) wants the red shoes back so that she can become the most beautiful woman in the land.
Is Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs Kid Friendly?
Yes. The movie is rated PG, mostly for action scenes and the perilous situations that the characters are placed in. There are also some dark overtones since the wicked stepmother poisons some of the characters with a red apple. Additionally, there are a few scenes where two of the characters kiss. However, this is is a movie for the whole family, including younger kids. My 7 year old son watched the movie with me and he loved it. The movie has several comedic moments and several action sequences to keep kids engaged. And the movie’s message – that people shouldn’t be judged by their appearances – is one that we can all learn from.
