Be still my music lovin’ heart. Three words: The Gaslight Theatre. Anytime someone comes out wearing a Wonder Woman type of costume, is named Lady Liberty, and sings a song similar to ABBA’s Dancing Queen (lady libbbbberty), I know I’m going to be a fan. Add into the mix, several superheroes by the name of Mega Man and the Streak, and I know it’s going to be a great show.
My family and I saw the Gaslight’s latest show, The Freedom League of America, over the 4th of July weekend, and we all agreed that it was it was extremely enjoyable, including my niece who was visiting from out of town. I previously wrote why we love the Gaslight Theater here.
But if any of you have young children and are on the fence as to whether your child is ready to sit still for a performance, the Gaslight’s current show, Freedom League of America, is a good opportunity to give it a try. This was the third time my 3 year old son has been to the Gaslight Theater, and while he’s enjoyed all the performances, this was by far the best experience he’s had. He loves superheroes, so it was right up his alley.
Before the show started, he and my niece had their photos taken in some of the photo booths.
Use the Force!
Who ya gonna call?
Getting ready to cruise into the theater….
Once the show started, so did the music and the laughs. Mega Man was one of the main characters. He kinda resembles a mild mannered news reporter 😉
I love it when the performers ad lib. Sometimes they break out laughing themselves, which makes it even more fun for us audience members. The storyline is also very simple, which helps when you do have younger children with you. Needless to say, the good guys (yay!) win at the end and the bad guys (boo!) lose.
After the main show ended, there was a short break before the performers came back on stage to perform in the Olio. This time, the olio was a spoof called Star Seekin’, which was similar to Star Search. As a product of the 80s, I was thrilled. And in breaking news, my son made it through the Olio for the first time ever!
I’d go back to see the show just to experience the Olio again, lol. I was happy to see the performers dress up and sing like Cyndi Lauper, the Beach Boys, Boy George, and Madonna.
Because Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Anyone remember the song Kokomo? “Aruba, Jamaica, oh I wanna take you…..”
And then two of my other favorites. Gotta love Boy George.
And if you’re Madonna, sometimes you just have to strike a pose, and Vogue.
We all loved it, and while my son didn’t understand what this part of the show was about, I think he was caught up in the overall excitement, and enjoyed the singing, dancing and audience participation.
And as for the popcorn? More than one basket of popcorn may have been consumed during our visit. I cannot confirm or deny it.
Now on to the giveaway!! I contacted the Gaslight Theatre to see if they would provide two tickets to one of my readers and they said graciously said yes! A huge thank you to the Gaslight Theatre!
