Are you looking for fun things to do with kids in Phoenix during the summer months? With temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, it’s difficult finding things to do with kids in Phoenix that involve being outside. However, spending the day at Wet ‘n’ Wild, a waterpark in the Phoenix area, is a fun way to keep cool during the hot summer months in Arizona. My family and I were hosted for a day at Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix in exchange for a review and we had a great time! As always, all opinions are my own 🙂
Things to Do With Kids in Phoenix During the Summer: Spend the Day at Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix
Waterparks that have rides and attractions for the whole family, especially for younger children, are rare. However, Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix is a fun waterpark that truly does have something for the whole family. Younger children are not only welcome, but they are also taken into consideration when it comes to attractions and rides. For example, there’s an area in the park called Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr. which is specifically for younger children like my preschool aged son. There are also several rides that all family members can enjoy together, like the wave pool and the lazy river. All of these attractions and rides easily make it one of the fun things to do with kids in Phoenix during the summer months. And there are also lifeguards throughout the park, which is very important for pool safety.
Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr.
There are several kid friendly water rides located in Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr, like Banzai Racers, Tiny Typhoon, and Screamin’ Streamers. Banzai Racers quickly became my son’s favorite ride in Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr. Essentially, kids can race down small slides on mats. My son could have stayed here all day if we let him!
Another fun ride is the Tiny Typhoon – kids can spin through a miniature funnel while on an inner tube. It took some convincing to get my son to try this, but once he gathered up enough courage to go on it, he said it’s not scary at all.
Screamin’ Streamers is a ride that kids can go on with their parents. My son first went on this ride with me and it’s a lot of fun. It has just the right amount of thrills for parents like me and younger children like my son.
Barefootin’ Bay
Barefootin’ Bay is the newest addition to Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr and it is a happenin’ place for younger children. There are several lounge chairs nearby, where parents can relax and watch their children play in the water. And there are also slides for children who enjoy going down water slides!
Boogie Board Beach
I’ve never seen such a massive water play structure before. Boogie Board Beach is located right outside the entrance to Wet ‘n’ Wild Jr and could easily be a waterpark of its own! There are bridges that kids can walk across to get from one slide to another and speaking of the slides, there are several of them. My son loved exploring Boogie Board Beach and all that it offers.
Family Friendly Amenities
The attractions and the rides aren’t the only things that make Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix a family friendly waterpark. There are family restrooms in the park, which include changing tables. There are also several lounge chairs located under shaded canopies. And for those who really want to stay cool, there are cabanas available for rent at an additional cost. As part of our hosted visit, we were provided with a cabana, and I would definitely consider reserving a cabana in the future. The cabana includes a ceiling fan, chairs and lounge chairs, a television with DirecTV, a table, snacks, water bottles, a tube of sunscreen, a cabana attendant, and a personal safety box. For an additional cost, guests can reserve a cabana package that also includes 4 meals, 4 non-alcoholic drinks, 4 single scoops of ice cream, and 2 single inner tubes or 1 double inner tube.
Life vests are also available throughout the waterpark for complimentary use. In fact, they are required on some of the rides for children under 48 inches, like the lazy river and the wave pool.
Food and Snacks
There are plenty of options when it comes to meals and snacks, from entrees like hot dogs and hamburgers, to snacks like ice cream and slushies. Do you have a sweet tooth? If so, Surfer’s Sweets and Ice Cream has you covered. There are also several snack shacks near the front entrance of the park, with offerings like funnel cakes and Indian Fry Bread. And more importantly, there is a water station near the entrance where guests can get water from a cooler.
Know Before You Go
I recommend arriving at Wet ‘n’ Wild as early in the day as possible, not only because of the weather, but also to avoid larger crowds (however, there are discounts available to those who want to visit the park after 4 pm). Children’s heights are measured near the front entrance – they are given a color coded wristband which determines which rides they can go on.
Towels are not provided so be sure to bring your own towels. Also, while Wet ‘n’ Wild tries to make it as cool as possible for guests, the pavement is still hot. As a result, I highly recommend bringing water shoes. We brought water shoes, and it was easier for us to walk around without having to carry our sandals around with us.
There are also several fun events that occur at Wet ‘n’ Wild on certain dates, like Dive ‘n’ Movies. You can find out more about their events by clicking here.
We had a great time at Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix and if we lived in the Phoenix area, we would no doubt get a season pass. It’s a waterpark that welcomes all ages, and is fun for everyone, including younger children!
