The residents of Virgin River are back in season 2, but there’s more drama than ever. Beginning November 27, 2020, Virgin River Season 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix, but after watching the entire series, I’m not sure I’ll be back for season 3, should there be one. Why? Because….
Virgin River Season 2 Isn’t as Good as the First Season
I loved the first season of Virgin River and I hated that it ended on a cliffhanger. However, Season Two ends on a worse cliffhanger (although not as bad as Warrior Nun) and I’m kinda over it. I love Netflix, but please, PLEASE stop ending series with cliffhangers. It makes me not want to continue watching the series. If I had enjoyed the second season of Virgin River, I might be more inclined to continue watching. But I didn’t. Why exactly? Because while the first season was borderline soap opera-ish, the second season crosses that line into soap opera territory. And there’s a reason why I don’t watch soap operas. Still, it’s not as bad as Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square so I guess it has that going for it.
Is Virgin River Season 2 Kid Friendly?
Eh. The series is rated TV-14 mostly due to language, violence, references to drugs, and mild sexual content. Did I mention it’s like a soap opera? One character tries to steal drugs, there are references to domestic violence, and characters say words like “ass,” “hell,” “dumbass,” “damn,” and “hell.” There are also a few sex scenes although nothing explicit is shown, unlike Bridgerton. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend that kids under 14 years old watch this series.
Do You Need to Watch the First Season Before Watching Virgin River Season 2?
Yes. There’s a lot of history between the characters that you will miss out on if you don’t watch the first season first. Plus, it’s much better than the second season.
Overall Thoughts
The series isn’t terrible, but it gets bogged down by too much drama. The cast, scenery and soundtrack are what I like about this series, but the storyline…..not so much. There was drama in the first season, but I was hoping for at least a resolution with regard to one of the main storylines in the second season. And I didn’t feel like happened with the second season.

I totally agree. I loved the first season.. I don’t care for second season at all. I Mel seems to be settling for Jack. He seems like a terrible second season ad it turned out to be a not so great love.
It’s great he’s decided to be devoted to the twins he doesn’t want , but he is too devoted to their mother.
Same with Doc and his wife. Spending most of season 2 encouraging Doc to date another woman just to not reveal to others they reconciled seemed uninspiring as well.
All the subplots never grabbed my attention to begin with.

I agree! The storyline with Hope and Doc was rather bizarre!

Agree, that’s why I came looking to see if others felt the same, was really looking forward to season 2 but now unsure will continue with it.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me! It was definitely disappointing.

I completely agree! The drama was unbearable. Mel and Jack aren’t talking, oh wait, yes they are. Just kidding, they’re not talking, but they are sleeping together. Mel claims that she loves the way Jack can make her laugh even when she doesn’t want to; however, every scene is dreary, sad and dramatic. I guess all of the laughing is happening off camera. Don’t even get me started on the bipolar relationship of Mel and Charmaine. Charmaine, you do you, girl. I’d be pissed, too.

Bipolar relationship is a good way to describe Mel and Charmaine’s relationship!
