If there’s one thing I love more than traveling (besides my family, of course!), it’s reading and entertainment in general. This month, I’m reviewing Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I first heard about this book from Reese’s Book Club. The synopsis sounded intriguing and it combines some of my favorite genres – fiction with a murder mystery.
Book Review: Where the Crawdads Sing
Have you ever read a book that you can’t put down once you start reading it? That’s what happened with Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I read it within a day. The main character is Kya and I’m not exaggerating when I write that she’s had a rough life. The youngest of 5 children, she basically raises herself after her family members (including her mother) leave her one by one, due to her abusive father. The marsh is the only place where she feels like she belongs.
Where the Crawdads Sings is heartbreaking. The book begins with a dead body being found. Who is he? Is he a good guy? A bad guy? Who killed him? The murder mystery is a part of the book, but there is so much more to Where the Crawdads Sing. The book goes back and forth, from Kya as a child to becoming an adult. Delia Owens certainly has a way with words – her descriptions of the marsh are very vivid and she does a great job of bringing the characters to life. I have to admit that the ending completely surprised me.
As you can tell, I enjoyed reading Where the Crawdads Sing and I recommend it for those of you who enjoy reading fiction and murder mysteries.
Have you read Where the Crawdads Sing? If so, what did you think? And is there a book in particular that I should add to my reading list? I love it when people recommend books that they enjoy reading.
